Start a Journal

I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping a journal.

Your children someday will appreciate this. You will appreciate this one day in the not-so-far away future.

Remember time is speeding up.

I hope I have convinced you. Now to start!

So many ways to do this nowadays.

Go to the bookstore and get a dreamy looking journal. Go to the five and dime and buy a cheap notebook and dress it up yourself.

Start a blog, WordPress dot com (not dot org) allows you to keep it private. I believe blogger (Google) does too.

I am 51 now and things that I thought I would never forget are fading into the universe.

There are many memories lost. I wish I had kept a better journal. I have the essence of the past and finding people helps it flow like the ocean, back and forth. Thank you Facebook and classmates for this window into my past.

It been a great ride and the train is still moving at a rapid pace. I am still amazed every day.

I take many notes and they are scattered all over my documents that I continuously try to organize with this folder and that.

I think the old fashion journey is still the best fit for me.

Getting your child to eat healthy

When my 29 year old was a baby he had no desire to eat until 9 months old. His first food was avocado, a sort of fruit/veggie. We added peas, carrots, then fruit. As he grew up into his three’s and fours, we added sprout balls (sprouts rolled up into nutritional yeast) and tofu cubes along with lots of other healthy foods. I could eat ice cream in front of him and he wouldn’t even beg it because he didn’t know what it was, he had never had it. (I, on the other hand was feed it every other nights as a child). To this day he eats very healthy.

The point is we ate really good therefore my kids would eat really good, junk food wasn’t an options as it didn’t exist in their minds. You can’t miss what you don’t know.

Babymoon Parenting blog has a post called “It’s not you…it’s me?” Article by Kelly Spec, Registered Dietitian – Spectrum Nutrition
Instructor at Babymoon Parenting in Vancover , BC. I just had to repost her—of course with her permission.

This is such basic, smart, common sense stuff but time and time again I am amazed how many parents don’t get it. Thanks for the reminder to all parents. I wish this article was mandatory reading before someone has their first child. I have such a long list of mandatory reading for 1st time parents.

Is your toddler a ‘picky eater’?  Or not eating at all?  The biggest mistake I see parents make is thinking their child’s picky eating is just the child’s personality when in fact, the issue usually stems from how the parents are feeding their toddlers.

{to read middle of article click here at Babymoon}

If parents do their job of providing a variety of foods at predictable times, in a predictable setting, toddlers can do their job of eating.  Children will not starve themselves (thank goodness this is an innate quality we are all born with!) but they do need their parent’s trust to do their job of eating.

“Into These Hands”

Available at http://www.spiritualityhealth.com/shop/print-books/ and bookstores now.

Power, politics, and profit aside, how a nation cares for its mothers and newborns is a key indicator of the health of that society. “Into These Hands: Wisdom from Midwives,” an anthology of essays from 25 extraordinary midwives, speaks directly to what really matters to women: the right to have safe and satisfying births.

“Into These Hands” is edited by Geradine Simkins, a midwife, author, and president of the Midwives Alliance of North America.

Special thanks to Steve and Michelle Lawson for bestowing the footage of the birth of their son, filmed beautifully by Julia Arielle (http://juliaariellephotography.com).

Greenmedinfo: Infant Formula

No Gravatar

Greenmedinfo: place to go for complete picture on what is in your food and what that can do or possibly do to your body.

This web page has all the studies you would need to really decide for yourself if you want to consume something or have a family member consume it.

Check out this article on infant formula.

Mead Johnson is a major manufacturer of infant formula both domestically and globally with its flagship product being Enfamil.

Why is infant formula associated with increased morbidity and mortality? We believe that many of the ingredients in these products are not always biologically appropriate, and due to the fact that many are byproducts of the mining and chemical industries, may act as endocrine disruptors or metabolic poisons. For example, vitamin A acetate is produced through “total chemical synthesis” through a petrochemically dependent process. It has been linked to birth defects, and so may be very different from the type of vitamin A (e.g. retinol) found in natural carotenoids like beta-carotene (technically two linked retinol molecules).

Watsu for Pregnancy

Watsu is a combination of water and shiatsu.

Wikipedia states “Watsu, a portmanteau of water and shiatsu, is a form of body massage performed while lying in warm water (around 35 °C or 95 °F). The receiver of Watsu treatment is continuously supported by the therapist while he or she rocks and gently stretches the body. Because it is performed in the water, the body is free to be manipulated and stretched in ways impossible while on the land.”

Watsu around the World states “Many come out of a Watsu saying they were more relaxed than they have ever been. Some say it was one of the most powerful experiences in their life.”

Beyond Body Work states “Watsu is used frequently, often weekly, during pregnancy, especially during the last trimester. No other therapy offers the profound relaxing weightlessness and comfort for both mother and child. The 96 degree water is safe and perfect for the unborn child. Both mother and child experience a new freedom and expansion benefiting both.”

Watch this Youtube video to get a peek. It is a bit of a sales job but a good into.

Marley

Note to all: This is my story of knowing Marley Cote’s mother, Joan Cote. She was my birth roommate. RIP Joan.
Marley was Bob’s last name but his songs and positive vibrations have inspired many to pass on more than his gift of uplifting messages on to their youth.

Joan held a precious one inside her belly.
I could not tell you what it was exactly that inspired her when she heard Bob sing.
Was it his poetry? Was it the rhythms his songs moved her to and fro? Was it his accent? His culture? His Vibes? His One Love message?
The puzzle pieces are there to be had, but not by me. That story can be told by another.
I only know she named her first and only child Marley. I only know the strength and love she offered him. For two months we were room mates, or should I say deck mates since the home we shared merely consisted of mismatched decks added one by one to form a compound, known by some as a magical Oasis. I only know…
Joan was in the house…
and Marley was zooming by.
