Home schooling at 48!

Negative comments will not keep me down.

Their discouragement

“You just love to complain about that stupid computer when you could be doing something different.”— Starbo

“Come on mom, is that all you do?”—Kids

“You need to get a new hobby.”—Everyone

“Get out of the house today and live.”-Brian

“You need a job.”—Everyone

My reply

“This is my job.”

“Pretend I am paying thousands of dollars for a college degree. I am learning a new career: writing and blogging.”

“I just rode my bike the last hour”

“I just did 1 ½ hr yoga session, what did you do?”

“I just walked the dog, drove to store, picked Raina up, went to the bank, took the kids to a movie and dinner and shopping.”

“I sat down for half hour then the phone rang, I ran the vacuum, did a load of clothes, cleaned the bathrooms, made dinner. Need I say more?”

Class President 2012

Made posters for 3 days. Wraped cookies and brownies with vote notes. She won class president.Yeh!

It was a lot of work but really fun. It’s good to give yourself plenty of time so you don’t rush at last minute. Did we do this? Of course not. Her father and I worked till 3 am, she stayed up till 1am. That is late for a girl that is in bed by 10pm at the latest every school night.

We made brownies and put “Vote Raina for President” strips in each plastic wrap, along with wraping two oreo cookies with a ribbon marded “vote Raina”.  She wanted Oreo’s for a reason; she is black and white and proud of it, she says.

Black girl escorted to school

On November 14, 1960, nearly 49 years ago, 6 year old Ruby Bridges faced hostile crowds, and had to be escorted by U.S. Marshall's, because she was the first black child to attend previously all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, Louisiana

I saw this on an e-mail. I changed a few facts to make it more accurate.

On November 14, 1960, nearly 49 years ago, 6 year old Ruby Bridges faced hostile crowds, and had to be escorted by U.S. Marshall’s, because she was the first black child to attend previously all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ruby was 6 years old. (The Great Norman Rockwell created the painting above depicting that event.)

She was bombarded with jeers and even death threats; one person even put a black doll in a coffin. She ended up being the sole child in her first grade class that year. All because Ruby was Black.

A black girl escorted to school, 2009

On January 5, 2009, nearly 49 years after Ruby attended her school, 7-year-old Sasha Obama, faced cheering schoolmates as her Mother and U. S. Secret Service Agents escort her to Sidwell Friends Elementary School in Washington, DC. Her Mother, the current First Lady of the United States of America, had Secret Service escort because Sasha’s daddy is now the 44th President of the United States: Barack Obama:

recycle styrofoam

I am looking for a way to recycle Styrofoam. I purchased two desks recently; they came with large sheets of Styrofoam. I know what to do with peanut Styrofoam. The peanuts I get in most packaging I carry to my closest UPS store. They are happy to get them. But what to do with the large odd shaped stuff? The easy way out is to just throw them in the trash. Most people can do this, why can’t I. They just drag it out on trash day and boom; it’s gone the next morning.
recycle styro

SORRY, Lee County doesn't recycle styrofoam!

recycle styro-1

Is that a real panther enjoying the styrofoam?

where did the head come from?

We Choose Love

We Choose Love is a sweet web site to check out. I love the photos. Very uplifting even though it is a bit sappy and new agey.
